Fauquier's Patrick Atwell won a Class 4 state championship in the boys 400-meter run.

Fauquier’s Patrick Atwell ran the boys 400-meter dash in 47.66 seconds to win a state championship during the Class 4 track and field meet at Liberty University in Lynchburg on Friday and Saturday. 

He helped the Falcons tie for seventh in the boys standings with 23 points while Loudoun Valley won (87) and Liberty finished 30th (5 points). In the girls competition, Blacksburg won (53) with Fauquier 18th (14) and Kettle Run 25th (8).

Atwell also helped the boys 1,600 relay team place fourth in 3 minutes, 24.99 seconds with Nick Matthews, John Paccassi and Josh Moylan, while the bosy 3,200 team finished second in 7:58.24. Kayla Pavlock added a pair of third-place finishes in the girls discus (118 feet, 8 inches) and shot put (39-1), while Cammi Winston took seventh in the 100 hurdles (16.56).

For Liberty, Sam Rodman placed fourth in the boys 800 (1:55.65), while Kettle Run’s Adalia Coleman finished fifth in the girls 200 (25.95) and in the discus (117-9).
