The Fauquier Community Band will present a free concert of music written for dancing at 7 p.m. June 5 in the auditorium of Fauquier High School.
The program will include music from the classical repertoire the “Hungarian Dance #5,” one of 21 dances originally written by Johannes Brahms for four-handed piano based on what he believed to be folksongs. The concert will also include ballet music, a collection of dramatic melodies from Igor Stravinsky’s “The Firebird,” as well as romantic 19th century ballroom music from Johann Strauss’s “Emperor Waltz.”
There are no tickets required and families are welcome. This concert will feature a raffle to raise money for continuing band operations. Prizes were donated by local merchants. Tickets sell for $1 each or $5 for six. The audience is invited to join band members for complimentary punch and cookies after the concert.
The band consists of more than 60 local musicians. Membership is open to everyone, amateurs, professionals, teachers, students, retirees and anyone else willing to come to rehearsals and learn the music.
