A Kid Pan Alley Musical—The Talented Clementine

The beloved Clementine series of children’s books have been turned into a new musical by Kid Pan Alley founder Paul Reisler.  The production of the Talented Clementine that is currently running at Gunston Arts Center Theatre One in Arlington will come to Rappahannock on Saturday, June 15 at 2 pm at the Little Washington Theatre.

The musical was adapted from Sara Pennypacker’s multiple award winning series of books by Reisler who also wrote the songs.  He wrote many of the 28 songs during Kid Pan Alley residencies at schools including several at Rappahannock Elementary.

Clementine is a rambunctious and loveable 3rd grader who thinks she doesn’t have any talents to share at the talent show only to discover that her talents save the show and surprise everyone including herself.

The show speaks to the insecurity about our own abilities that most of us have felt during our lives.  And, it speaks directly to what Kid Pan Alley is all about—inspiring kids to discover their own innate creativity.

Major artists including Amy Grant, Sissy Spacek, Delbert McClinton, Cracker, Kix Brooks, Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Corey Harris, Suzy Bogguss and many others have recorded Kid Pan Alley songs written with elementary school children over the years.  Just think about what that does for a child’s confidence in their own creative ability.

“Though it’s a show written for children, people of all ages will find inspiration in this hilarious and entertaining show and the fantastic songs we wrote with the kids,” says Reisler.

The project is a collaboration between Encore Stage and Studio and Kid Pan Alley and is directed by Susan Keady and Amanda Nell with music director Sara Markovitz.

The production runs from May 31-June 9 at Gunston Arts Center, 2700 S. Lang, Arlington, VA. For information and tickets: www.EncoreStage.org.  Then it will travel to the Theatre at Little Washington for a 2pm performance on Saturday July 15th. Tickets and info: www.bit.ly/clem-lw
