Hot-air balloon festival on tap Saturday
American Legion Remington Post 247 has announced the "Americans In Wartime Museum" schedule of events for its 2013 open house.

There will be two full days of entertaining and educational activities for the whole family on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

The location will be the "What's Happening Tank Farm", 13906 Aden Road, Nokesville. Activities will include museum merchandise, military vehicles, living history displays, kids' scavenger hunt, wartime oral history, and artifact displays. Register at http://www.nmaw.org/events.

Bealeton's second outdoor flea market, sponsored by True Value Hardware and Food Lion, will take place in the Bealeton Village Center on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be entertainment by DJ "Super" Dave. There will also be the JJ Pack #3 race car, crafters, yard sellers, vendors with collectibles, and trash-to-treasure.

There will be something for everyone. All table space proceeds benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Telephone either (540) 439-5541 or (540) 439-1373 for additional information and to reserve advanced vendor table spaces at $20 each.

The 40th annual Air Show and Hot Air Balloon Festival will show on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Flying Circus Airfield in Bealeton located at U.S. 17 and Route 644 (Ritchie Road).

There will be a "Going Out of Business Sale" at Remington's Treasure Island Thrift Shop on East James Madison Street. Everything must go, such as, clothing, household items, furniture, and shoes. For additional information, telephone Vicky at (540) 219-5593.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) select location, in Remington Town Hall, celebrated its 10th anniversary. The visiting dignitaries included Chester Stribling, Lee District supervisor and vice-chairman for the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors.

In honor of the anniversary, the Remington location featured its DMV 2 Go trailer, a full-service mobile office that provides all transactions for automobile-related drivers.

Currently Remington Town Council is considering a new building for its ever expanding local customer base. The mobile office is scheduled to return on Nov. 6 in the parking lot across from the Remington Variety Building.

DMV provides full service in Remington
Remington Department of Motor Vehicles will have its mobile unit available on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Remington Variety Building (225 East Main St., downtown Remington) to perform all motor vehicle services, except motorcycle rider testing.

This will be the 10-year anniversary of the DMV satellite/select office in Remington's Town Hall. Rumor is that DMV will have a special celebration event on Aug. 13.

Remington Partnership to receive $350,000
Mary Root, president of Remington Partnership, reported to the Remington Town Council at its last meeting that grants totaling $350,000 have been approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation for a Remington Railroad Museum.

The three-phase grant would finance the relocation and renovation of the former railroad building on East Main Street to West James Madison Street in
