Ashton W. Burke, businessman
Ashton William Burke, 79, of Warrenton, died Oct. 22, 2008, at Fauquier Hospital. He was born in Sperryville, Va., on Feb. 12, 1929, to Charles and Mary Ellen Burke.
He graduated from Rappahannock County High School and received an associate degree from Monmouth College. In 1953, he moved to Lincroft, N.J., where he worked as a sheet metal design technician.
In 1964, he returned to Virginia and opened Fauquier Sheet Metal Company and Burke Construction. He was also a licensed real estate appraiser and Realtor.
Mr. Burke was active in the horse industry and raised, showed and trained horses in New Jersey and Virginia. He was the sponsor of the Horse Enthusiast license plate in Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cletus C. Burke, and a sister, Hilda Metzgar.
Surviving him are his wife of 49 years, Sharon M. Burke; a sister, Pauline Suk of Lititz, Pa.; and a brother, Jennings Burke of Springfield, Va.
There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton, with Dr. Hurley Shortt and the Rev. John Burke officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
