Highland survives NSA
On the phone, as his team made the long bus ride back from Suffolk, VA., Highland softball coach Donald O'Meara proclaimed facetiously, "I'm fine now, but I was in cardiac arrest about 30 minutes ago!" The reason for O'Meara's angst was his team's heart-stopping VIS quarterfinal game at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. The Hawks held on for a 2-1 victory, but it turned into a white knuckle affair. | 0 comments - ›› more ...

Fauquier's McCartin accepts football walk-on offer at UVa.
Suffering a torn ACL last football season didn’t end Kyle McCartin’s scholarship quest, but it made it a more laborious pursuit. In lieu of immediate athletic scholarship offers, the Fauquier High senior decided in early April to attend the University of Virginia next fall and join the football team as an invited walk on. Once recruited by a handful of Division I programs, McCartin will now try to earn a scholarship by climbing up the quarterback depth chart in the coming years. | 0 comments - ›› more ...
This time LHS girls dominate FHS in tennis, 9-0
As celebrations go, this was pretty tame. It had the kind of hushed tone found amid church pews mid-sermon, altogether appropriate considering this celebration happened mid-match Wednesday in the Liberty Eagles' 9-0 sweep of Fauquier High. | 0 comments - ›› more ...
Norman scores five as Eagles wallop Culpeper, 17-12

Battlefield hits 8 home runs, beats Liberty 30-2
It’s technically possible for a baseball game to never end.Baseball has no time limits, meaning one team could keep on hitting if the other team can’t get them out.Battlefield put that mind-blowing time continuum to the test in Friday’s game against Liberty. The Bobcats batted 19 men and scored 15 runs in the first inning alone. They opened up a 15-0 lead and coasted to a 30-2 victory in a game that did eventually come to an end. | 0 comments - ›› more ...
Despite 5-1 loss, Liberty girls improve as game goes on
Liberty coach Bob Ruhland could not be disappointed at losing to Battlefield Friday night in Haymarket. His girls managed to hold the Cedar Run District's top team to only one second-half goal with underclassmen doing the bulk of the defensive work for him in the backfield. “I don’t ever complain [about] losing to talent,” he said. The Bobcats (11-1) unleashed a fury of goals right out from the gate as part of a 5-1 victory over the Eagles (2-8-1). | 0 comments - ›› more ...
FHS boys tennis (14-0) acing all comers
The No. 1 team in the Cedar Run District boys tennis standings faced a test Monday. Here was first-place Fauquier, unbeaten this spring, headed to No. 2 Loudoun Valley for a late-season battle. Loudoun Valley had lost twice in league play, so the Falcons already had clinched the district's crown before entering the regular-season finale. The big question was whether the home-court advantage would permit the Vikings to spoil Fauquier's unblemished record. | 0 comments - ›› more ...

'Crafty lefty' gives Eagles a chance
The Liberty Eagles caught everything except a break Friday and lost 3-1 to Stonewall Jackson in Manassas.A starting pitcher for the first time, Liberty's Justin Reinaldo frustrated Stonewall batters with a repertoire of off-speed pitches and kept his defense busy by inducing 12 fly ball outs. Liberty's large collection of catches was upstaged, though, by one brilliant play by Raiders first baseman Jay Jay Zehring. | 0 comments - ›› more ...

He's Junior Bioh, and he's tough to slow down
It was the only thing Junior Bioh did that even mildly annoyed his coach. Falcons threaten Battlefield at times, but fall, 7-1
Had there been a sand wedge hanging on the dugout bat rack, Battlefield catcher Courtney Liddle may have hit three home runs in the Bobcats' 7-1 victory over the Fauquier softball team Tuesday. Sans sand wedge, Liddle had to settle for two home runs and four RBIs because the big barrel of her aluminum bat was of little use in her final at bat. | 0 comments - ›› more ...
Stonewall survives late Liberty charge, wins 5-3
Things are gonig your way when your pitcher's bad outing involves 11 strikeouts. Such is the story for Stonewall Jackson (10-3 overall, 5-3 district) and ace Melissa Kirby. Osbourn outguns Liberty, 9-1, to re-emerge as district contenders
In the last seven years, the Osbourn High softball team has been a excellent source of family entertainment. For about $4, you get to see one of the elite programs in the state knock the ball around the park and play brilliant defense. But so far it's been an unusual season for the architect of this powerhouse, coach Renee Leake, wife of Highland School athletic director Gary Leake.Leake suspended four players for violating team rules earlier this year. It's one reason the defending Cedar Run District champions are 6-6, including an uncharacteristic 2-4 in league. | 0 comments - ›› more ...

Fauquier's Loba wins 1,600; Morse, Jordan duel in hurdles
Grace Loba’s time was good, even by national standards. Her timing, on the other hand, may prove to be rather poor.
