Deputies investigate fraud at Goldvein Fire Department
Sheriff's deputies are investigating Goldvein Fire Department for signs of embezzlement.
On Nov. 13 the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into possible embezzlement by Kimberly Strayer, revenue recovery coordinator and HIPAA compliance officer for Fauquier County Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Management.
Fauquier County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at Goldvein Volunteer Fire Department and at a home in the 4300 block of Mount Ephraim Road in Sumerduck.
From the home, authorities confiscated "miscellaneous financial documents, an iPhone, and an iPad," according to the search warrant return. Strayer has held her position since June 2007, according to Paul McCulla, Fauquier County administrator.
"We received the complaint and we are investigating it and we're in the very early stages of the investigation so I can't make any comment. No charges have been placed at this point," said Lt. James Hartman of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office.
"The original complaint involved her position as treasurer at Goldvein Fire Department," said Hartman.
"She [Strayer] is on administrative leave until the results of the investigation wrap up," said McCulla.
A call to Goldvein Chief John Woodburn III Friday afternoon was not immediately returned.
