A Wednesday night fire engulfed a vacant house on Remington Road.

At about 11:15 p.m., Fauquier County's 911 Communications Center received a call about the glow of an outside fire visible from North Franklin Street in Remington. A Remington fire truck, sent out to investigate, discovered the glow came from a burning house in the 12000 block of Remington Road.

Dispatchers sent out the call for a house fire, and firefighters from Remington, Warrenton, Lois, Goldvein and Catlett fire departments arrived to put out the fire, said Remington firefighter Justin Jenkins.

Fully half of the two-story house was ablaze when firefighters arrived, but within a half hour, most of the fire had been extinguished. No one appeared to be living in the building. A sign near the property said it was for sale by realtor Brenda Rich. The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
