Storm causes flood warnings across Fauquier and power outages in Warrenton

Wednesday, Apr. 30 | By Julie Taylor
UPDATE: At 12:30 p.m., power outages are now down to 327 customers.

At noon, 1,098 Dominion Power Company customers were in the dark, according to Dominion's power outage map.

C.M. Bradley Elementary currently has no power. "The lights are flickering at Marshall Middle School, but the power is not out yet," said Karen Parkinson, coordinator of information for Fauquier County Public Schools.

Parkinson said the phones are not working at Bradley because the power is out, but they are able to communicate via radio. Instruction will continue throughout the day, they will be dismissed on time, and buses will run on their normal schedule. All after school activities have been cancelled. If parents want to contact school, call the main office at 540-422-7000.

Chuck Penn of Dominion said they are attempting to find the source of the outage, in addition to "switching a line" so that customers can experience a quicker recovery.

The heavy downpour has also resulted in flash flood warnings.

Fauquier could see up to four inches of rain by Thursday afternoon, and a flash flood watch is in effect until then. There is also potential for tornadoes, according to the county emergency services release.
