Six minor injuries result from school bus accident

Thursday, Jun. 5 | By Julie Taylor
Today around 1 p.m. six students from Highland School suffered minor injuries in a school bus accident.

The two buses were coming down Fort Valley Road and approached a T-intersection with stop sign at Egypt Bend Road, according to Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police. The 1990 International bus ran into the back of the 2005 Thomas bus, but the cause is still under investigation.

"They were returning from their sophomore field studies at Caroline Furnace," said Briar Bogin, spokesperson for Highland.

She said there were 45-50 students and faculty involved in the accident which happened in Luray.

The six injured students were transported to Page Memorial Hospital, and parents were notified. Some are still waiting to be released.

Luray Elementary School allowed the group to stay at their facility during the transition period, and Page County Public Schools sent buses to shuttle the group back to Warrenton.

"We're just thankful that everybody is OK," said Bogin.
