Six children injured in Opal accident

Monday, Jun. 23 | By Julie Taylor
A van carrying six apparently unrestrained children overturned last night, sending the entire group to area hospitals, according to Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police.

Around 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 29 and O'Keefe Road a 2004 Ford Mustang, driven by 28-year-old Damian Olvera-Resendiz of Bealeton, pulled into the crossover and struck the 2005 Buick van.

The van was driven by a woman from Locust Grove. She and one child were taken to Fauquier Hospital. Two children were flown by medical helicopter to Inova Fairfax, and two children were taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital.

Trooper K.H. Frantz charged Olvera-Resendiz with reckless driving, and driving on a revoked license.

The Locust Grove woman was not injured, according to Catlett Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department's Assistant Chief Mike Moore.
