Police recover body in Sky Meadow after two-day hunt
Search teams have recovered an adult male body near Sky Meadows State Park in Fauquier County after a two-day search. The identity is being withheld at this time until all family has been notified.
Police started a search Wednesday after authorities discovered a vehicle left in the park Monday afternoon that was registered to a man who had been reported missing, according to a release from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The man was about 30 years old and was reported missing from Fairfax, said Lt. James Hartman, spokesman for the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office joined the Department of Conservation and Recreation, Virginia State Police, Stafford County Sheriff’s Search Team, Spotsylvania County Sherriff’s Department, the Appalachian Search and Rescue Council and the Shenandoah Mountain Rescue group who helped organize the search. Tracking dogs discovered the man's body Friday afternoon in an area near the Appalachian Trail near the park’s northwest boundary.
