The Liberty Eagles’ five-match winning streak ended Wednesday with a 3-2 loss to Courtland at home in Bealeton.
Despite the 25-23, 19-25, 21-25, 25-20, 12-15 loss, Liberty has a 9-6 record and is third in the Evergreen District standings with a 3-2 mark.
After losing to Fauquier on Sept. 19 (3-2), the Eagles defeated Brentsville (3-1), Culpeper (3-0), Eastern View (3-2), Chancellor (3-0) and King George before falling to Courtland.
On Wednesday, Sadie Rynestad led Liberty with 12 kills, while Diane McDaniel had 10, Brittanie King had eight and Sara Guerra had six. Guerra added aces, while King and Rynestad had two each. Elizabeth Berger had four digs, while McDaniel had 1.5 blocks.
Highland at cross country invitational
The Highland Hawks accumulated four top-five finishes Wednesday at a Fredericksburg Academy cross country invitational.

For the Highland girls, sophomore Olivia Saunders finished second, eighth grader Carolyn Treuting placed fourth and eighth grader Molly Patronizio took fifth. For the Highland boys, sophomore Shane Buss finished fourth.
