The Kettle Run boys placed second at the Conference 27 cross country championship meet Wednesday to qualify for the Class 3A East Region championship meet.
The Cougars finished with a score of 55, while Brentsville won with a 15, Spotsylvania took third with a 104, Culpeper placed fourth with a 108, James Monroe finished fifth with a 126 and Manassas Park took sixth with a 153.
The Kettle Run girls placed fifth with a 106, while Brentsville won with a 22 ahead of James Monroe (68), Culpeper (77) and Manassas Park (101). The East Region meet will be Nov. 6 in Culpeper.
The Brentsville boys swept the top six spots individually with Corey Tooke winning in 16 minutes, 21 seconds. Kettle Run’s Connery Ryon broke up the Tigers’ top-seven runners by placing seventh (17:15). The Cougars’ Marshall Adzima finished 10th (17:23), while Dylan Cooke took 11th (17:23), Reece Cooke placed 13th (17:51) and Devyn Heron finished 14th (17:52).
Brentsville’s Nicole Giller won the girls race (20:05), while Kettle Run’s Grace Stone placed 11th (22:01), Abby Lutkehus finished 16th (22:36), Becca Bongiovi took 26th (24:56), Tori Spratt placed 29th (25:41) and Mackenzie Morris finished 31st (26:11).
