Mayor Fitch to retire at term’s end

Tuesday, Dec. 10 | By Mark Grandstaff | Google+

Warrenton Mayor George Fitch
Warrenton's mayor since 1998 will not run again for office next year.

George Fitch confirmed his decision to retire from office in an email to Fauquier Times.

Fitch's term ends June 30, 2014 - as do the terms of Vice Mayor David Norden and At-Large councilman Roger Martella Jr.

Fitch said he offered his support to councilman Powell Duggan (Ward One) and to Norden and Martella at an employee Christmas luncheon. Their continued governance, Fitch said, would "keep our smooth running government intact, the antithesis of Capitol Hill."

In July, Warrenton businesswoman Sunny Reynolds announced herself as a candidate for one of the council's at-large seats in next year's election, under the aegis of a newly-formed political action committee called "Fauquier Citizens for Balanced Growth."
