The Kettle Run Cougars rallied from a one-run deficit Wednesday and got a season-high 15 strikeouts from Kaitlin Munda to beat the Liberty softball team, 3-1, at home in Nokesville.
With the victory, the Cougars avenged a 9-8 loss to Liberty on April 21 and improved their record to 9-3 (3-1 Conference 27). Since losing to Liberty, Kettle Run has won three consecutive games with a 10-0 victory over Stonewall Jackson and a 17-0 win over James Monroe.
On Wednesday, Munda got the complete-game victory by allowing one earned run on two walks and one hit over seven innings.
Liberty got its lone run in the fifth inning when Leslie Bourgeois hit a sacrifice fly that scored Justine Sprouse (single). Kettle Run responded with three runs in the sixth inning, beginning with an RBI single by Debbie Stuart that scored Munda (double). Stuart later scored on a wild pitch and then Jasmine Webster hit an RBI single.
Munda went 2-for-3, while Stuart went 2-for-2.
