The Highland Hawks got their first win of the 2013 softball season Wednesday, beating Episcopal 11-1 at home in Warrenton.

Jessica Shaw went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and a triple while also pitching six innings. She struck out 10 Episcopal batters while allowing only four hits.

Also for Highland (1-1), Shelby Thornhill had two RBI and Mackenzie Ross had two runs.

Covenant girls lacrosse 12, Highland 9

Despite four goals by Mackenzie Walker and 13 saves by Emma Walsh, the Highland Hawks lost Wednesday to the Covenant girls lacrosse team, 12-9, at home in Warrenton.

Hayden Garrett added two goals and an assist for Highland (2-2), while Sophia Sirianni had two goals and Kendall Mayer had one goal and one assist.

Wakefield boys tennis 5, Wakefield Country Day 2

The Wakefield Owls swept their singles matches Wednesday to beat the Wakefield Country Day boys tennis team, 5-2, at home in The Plains.

Harwood Wolfson clinched the dual victory for the Owls (1-1) with an 8-6 win at No. 2 singles, while No. 1 Gabe Himelfarb won 8-1, No. 3 Juan Lizarraga won 8-1, No. 4 Bennett Wise won 8-5 and No. 5 Daniel Lizarraga won 8-0.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Himelfarb and Wolfson lost 6-1 and the No. 2 team of Juan and Daniel Lizarraga lost 6-5.
