The Highland Hawks continued to alternate lopsided wins and losses this girls lacrosse season with a 15-3 victory Tuesday over Trinity Christian at home in Warrenton.

Highland (2-1) previously lost to Episcopal, 12-4, on the road Saturday after opening the season with a 15-3 win over Liberty and losing a scrimmage,15-4, to Flint Hill.

Against Trinity, Kendall Mayer led the Hawks with five goals, Hayden Garrett had four goals and two assists, Jessica Crew had four goals, Sophia Sirianni had two assists and one goal, and Mackenzie Walker had one goal and one assists. Adding one assist each were Mayer, Olivia Bell and Soha Ahmed.

Highland limited Trinity to three goals with the help of 14 saves by goalie Emma Walsh.

Randolph Macon boys tennis 6, Wakefield 1

The Wakefield Owls opened the 2013 boys tennis season Tuesday with a 6-1 loss to Randolph Macon at home in The Plains.

No. 4 singles player Juan Lizarraga had the Owls lone win, 8-5.

No. 1 Gabe Himelfarb lost, 8-1, while No. 2 Harwood Wolfson lost, 8-0, No. 3 Bennett Wise lost, 8-3, and No. 5 Daniel Lizarrage lost, 8-3.

In doubles action, Himelfarb and Wolfson lost, 8-3, at No. 1, while Wise and Lizarraga lost, 8-1, at No. 2.

Kettle Run boys tennis 5, Sherando 4

The Kettle Run Cougars got their first win of the 2013 boys tennis season Tuesday, beating Sherando, 5-4, on the road in Stephens City to improve their record to 1-1.

In singles play, No. 2 Nick Meding won 10-7, while No. 3 Brendan Adamec won 10-2, No. 4 Ryan Powell won 10-2 and No. 5 Andrew Rainger won 10-3. The Cougars’ No. 2 doubles team of Adamec and Powell won 10-1 to clinch the victory on a day with winds up to 30 mph, Kettle Run coach Stephen Sviatko said.

“I was very proud of the team for handling the difficult weather conditions,” he said.
