Yesterday in Opal, a pickup truck collided with a tractor trailer, pinning the driver of the pickup under the dashboard and causing serious injury.

Just before 9 a.m. on Thursday, a tractor trailer, driven by Danelle Howard of High Point, North Carolina, pulled out of BBQ Country to turn left onto U.S. Route 17/29, and stopped in the median, blocking the northbound lanes, according to a Fauquier deputy's report.

Christopher Morris of Culpeper was driving in the northbound lanes and collided into the protruding trailer.

Because of Morris' injuries, his truck continued in the left-hand northbound lane, then crossed into the southbound lanes, and continued into the woods.

Morris was trapped and pinned under the dashboard, according to Capt. Rodney Woodward of the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department.

After 22 minutes, rescue crews were able to remove Morris.

Morris was flown by medical helicopter to Fairfax Hospital. Howard and a passenger were taken by ambulance to Fauquier Hospital.

No charges were placed.
