Warrenton's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9835 recognized a Culpeper High School student as their "Scout of the Year" March 14.

Eagle Scout William L. Cole V, a senior at Culpeper High, impressed the VFW post with his academic record, his letters in track and in swimming.

Cole, who works as a lifeguard at the Warrenton Aquatic Recreation Facility, belongs to Scout troop 550 at Verdun Adventure Bound. For his Eagle project, he marked a 5K cross-country course at Verdun, an effort that took over 1 year and 25 assistants to finish.

For his accomplishments, Cole received a certificate from the VFW - and a $200 check.
