The Wakefield Owls beat the Pope John Paul the Great girls basketball team, 51-36, Saturday at home in The Plains.
After leading only 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, Wakefield used a second-quarter run to take a 31-20 lead by halftime. The Owls then finished the game on a 13-7 run.
Airielle Jenkins led Wakefield with 10 points and four of the Owls’ 15 steals. Autumn Sanders added nine points, while Alexis Smith and Naomi Mutombo had seven each.
Smith and Mutombo added had four steals each, while Mutombo also had 14 rebounds (six offensive) and Smith also had six assists and six rebounds. Elizabeth Miller had two blocks.
