The Kettle Run Cougars used a big third-quarter run to rally back from a halftime deficit and beat the Liberty boys basketball team, 66-51, Tuesday at home in Nokesville.
The Eagles took a 19-13 by the end of the first quarter, but Kettle Run narrowed that to 31-29 by halftime. Then the Cougars outscored Liberty 20-5 in the third period, eventually dropping the Eagles’ record to 0-12 this season (0-6 Conference 22). Kettle Run, meanwhile, improved to 10-4 (2-2 Conference 27).
Rashawn Latimer led the Cougars with 25 points, increasing his season average to 17.7 points per game. Danny Mattson added 12 points and Eddie Benton and Brendan Deliee had nine each. Benton averages 13.2 points per game this season, while Mattson averaged 11 and Deliee averages 8.4.
Benton also led Kettle Run with six rebounds and two assist, plus three steals, while David Eldridge had five rebounds and three steals, and Deliee had four rebounds and two assists.
Justus Drakeford added four of the Cougars’ 17 steals.
