The Kettle Run Cougars lost consecutive games for the first time this boys basketball season by falling to Culpeper, 77-57, on the road Wednesday.
They also suffered their first Conference 27 loss of the season, falling to 2-1 (8-3 overall), while Culpeper improved to 4-0 (9-2 overall). Kettle Run previously lost to Fauquier, 62-55, on Jan. 10.
After taking a 10-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Blue Devils went on a 20-10 run to take a 30-16 lead at halftime. Culpeper then expanded its lead to 51-32 by the end of the third period.
Kettle Run made only 19 of 61 field goal attempts (31.1 percent) en route to the loss. Rashawn Latimer led the Cougars with 16 points, but on 5-for-16 shooting. Eddie Benton went 4-for-7 to score 14 points, while David Eldridge scored eight, but on 4-for-13 shooting.
Benton had 17 of the Cougars’ 42 rebounds, while Latimer had seven. Latimer also had a team-high three assists.
Chancellor boys basketball 67, Fauquier 56
The Chancellor boys basketball team expanded its lead in Conference 22 with a 67-56 win Wednesday over the Fauquier Falcons on the road in Warrenton.
Chancellor improved to 5-0 in the conference and 8-2 overall, while the Falcons held on to second place in the conference despite dropping to 4-2, 7-4 overall.
The Chargers took a 15-9 lead by the end of the first quarter and carried a 10-point lead much of the rest of the game.
Jeremiah Blackwell led Fauquier with 20 points, while Elijah Barbour had 14, Jay Jay Roberts had 12 and Lareco Robinson and Travis Croson had four each. Roberts and Robinson added eight rebounds each, while Blackwell had six and Croson had five. Croson also had three assists.
