The Fauquier County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution last week supporting the designation of Hopewell Road as a Commonwealth of Virginia Scenic Byway.
The four-plus mile stretch of road in northern Fauquier County features rolling hills, beautiful countryside and well maintained, century-plus-old farms.
The resolution stated that the rural zoning along Hopewell has protected the aesthetic and cultural nature of the road and that it should qualify as a Scenic Byway.
Area resident and conservationist Andrea Currier had already successfully petitioned The Plains Town Council to pass a resolution this summer in support of making the road a Scenic Byway.
After receiving the thumbs up from the town council, Currier got a recommendation by County's Transportation Committee before coming to the supervisors last week.
The Scenic Byway application will now be evaluated by the Virginia Department of Transportation and Conservation and Recreation before going before the Commonwealth Transportation Board.
