Fauquier County's firefighters are gearing up for a breast cancer awareness drive that is becoming a yearly tradition.
Next month, firefighters taking part in the "Brave Enough To Wear Pink" campaign will wear pink duty shirts. The shirts are on sale for everyone at the Brave Enough To Wear Pink website.
This year's design blends a fire hose with a pink ribbon set in a firefighter's traditional Maltese cross.
According to the county's Fireline newsletter for fire and rescue workers, "Proceeds this year go to a newly established fund named Brave Enough to Wear Pink and will be used to help our career and volunteer responders with financial assistance if they or a family member is affected by cancer."
Fauquier Assistant Chief Darren Stevens spearheaded the campaign last year, selling pink T-shirts to raise funds for breast cancer screenings at Fauquier Hospital and support for county employees affected by cancer. Last year's campaign
raised about $5,000.
