Goldvein fire secretary indicted on embezzlement charges

Kimberly Ann Strayer
The former secretary of the Goldvein Volunteer Fire Department was indicted Wednesday on 13 counts of embezzlement, the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office announced this afternoon.
Kimberly Ann Strayer, 42, of Mount Ephraim Road, Sumerduck, is accused of taking funds from the department between May 2012 and October. The indictments were issued by a special investigative grand jury.
Strayer turned herself in at the Sheriff’s Office this afternoon and is being held without bond, Sheriff's Lt. James Hartman said in an email.
Authorities began investigating possible embezzlement at Goldvein on Nov. 13 after "financial inconsistencies" were found by members of the fire department.
In addition to her work in Goldvein, Strayer was employed as revenue recovery coordinator and HIPAA compliance officer for Fauquier County's Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Management.
She was put on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation, County Administrator Paul McCulla said late last month.
