The Goldvein Volunteer Fire Department will survey its first due territory in the coming weeks to update its maps and to scout out potential water supply locations.

"We rely on 'dry hydrants,' ponds, lakes, and some larger streams to supply water for fire suppression in our entire response area," the department wrote on its Facebook page.

Anyone in Goldvein's territory who has a water source and wants information about dry hydrants should contact the fire department at (540) 752-4772.

The fire department also asks that residents under its protection take the following emergency precautions:

-Clearly mark home addresses on the street with large reflective numbers visible from each direction of travel on the road.

-Residents who share a driveway or reside on a private drive where there are multiple addresses should post numbers at driveway entrances and again where the driveways divide.

-Ensure that there is a minimum of 12 feet of clearance on the entire length of the driveway to include any gates, pillars, trees, or branches as well as a vertical clearance of 12 feet beginning to end.
