While politicians courted Fauquier residents for their votes yesterday, the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation called on people to donate to non-profits in a single-day donation blitz.
By the end of the day, the Give Local Piedmont campaign raised $675,069.27 for more than 100 non-profits across Fauquier, Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock counties. About half of those non-profits play roles in Fauquier County.
A thank-you update on givelocalpiedmont.org said, "The spirit of philanthropy is strong in our communities and collectively we have increased awareness for many important causes in the region."
According to Northern Piedmont Community Foundation's Twitter feed, the Fauquier Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
received the most donations in Fauquier County. Hospice Support of Fauquier County received the most donations from outside the country.
Now, the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation will verify gifts and prize eligibility for the non-profits who took part in the fund drive - a process they hope will finish by June 15.
