A former Virginia state trooper will serve 30 days in jail for five charges of sexual abuse of minors.

Judge Herman A. Whisenant Jr. sentenced Christopher Allen Carson, 30, of Bealeton Friday in Fauquier County Circuit Court. In December, Carson pleaded guilty to a felony count of criminal solicitation, a count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of exposing himself to a child, charges from incidents in 2001 before he joined the Virginia State Police.

Carson had also pleaded guilty to two counts of lending pornographic videos to a child in 2011.

According to court documents, Carson received a five-year sentence for the criminal solicitation count, all of which was suspended.

He received 12-month sentences for each of the four remaining misdemeanor offenses, suspended down to a total of 30 days in jail. Whisenant authorized Carson to take part in a work release program.

In a proffer statement to the court, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office accused Carson of sexually assaulting an eighth-grade boy in 2001. Carson was 18 at the time.

Carson joined the Virginia State Police in 2005 and was assigned to the Culpeper Division's Area 12 office in Warrenton.

Investigation into Carson started when the victim, now an adult, told his probation officer that he was uncomfortable being watched during a urine test.

An internal investigation by the state police uncovered two incidents in 2011 in which Carson provided pornographic videos to another child.

Carson was charged Feb. 13, 2012. State police terminated Carson's employment June 7, 2012.
