A fire gutted a building on Yorkshire Lane near Opal and displaced a family of three on Wednesday afternoon.
The call went out for the fire a little after 1:30 p.m. Firefighters from several companies extinguished the blaze and a nearby brush fire, according to preliminary radio traffic. Fire trucks used Liberty High School grounds as a fill site, drawing water to take to Yorkshire Lane, a side street of Covingtons Corner Road.
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fire's cause.
A team of Red Cross volunteers provided the house's occupants - a family of three, one adult and two children - with immediate disaster caused needs, said Nicholas Drauschak, East Zone disaster program manager for American Red Cross. Anyone who wishes to contribute help to the family can contact Red Cross at (434) 979-7143.
A private crowdfunding drive
has also been set up to raise money for the family displaced by the fire.
