Festive jubilee to raise funds

Friday, Dec. 6 | By Julie Taylor
The Boys & Girls Club hopes its upcoming jubilee will help raise the last $228,000 they need to save their presence in Fauquier. The jubilee will be at 28 Blackwell Park Lane in Warrenton on Dec. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. Festivities will include a silent auction, cash bar, pizza stations, entertainment, surprise guests and appearances by Santa Claus, Buddy the Elf, the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who.

"Members of the community of all ages are invited to attend this celebratory rally promoting awareness and contributions for the club,” said event chair Crystal McKinsey. “We hope this event will help bring us closer to meeting the club’s remaining immediate need,” she said.

As of Dec. 1, club leadership reports the immediate need is at $228,000, thanks to a $100,000 pledge from local business owner Andy Budd, coupled with continued contributions from the community, Jubilee sponsorships and a proposal by lenders to restructure a significant portion of the debt. The original goal of the capital campaign, launched in September, was $1.6 million by year-end.

Jubilee sponsors to date include: Country Chevrolet, McKinsey Development, Warrenton Village Center, Jud Fischel, P.C. , Biotrek Adventure Travel and Foxpath Farm. The Fauquier Chamber of Commerce, Greater Warrenton Chamber of Commerce, Southern Fauquier Business Owners Association, Culpeper Chamber of Commerce and Haymarket/Gainesville Business Association will host a community rally on December 11 in a joint effort to help save the club.
