The Highland Hawks shut out Shenandoah Valley in the first quarter Monday en route to a 44-19 girls basketball win at home in Warrenton.
The Hawks (10-7, 2-3 Delaney Athletic Conference) outscored Shenandoah, 16-0, in the first and took a 20-6 halftime lead before extending their advantage to 33-12 by the end of the third period.
“Great opportunity to recognize our seniors for all of their hard work, dedication and contributions to the team,” Hawks coach Gary Leake said. “Good to have balanced scoring again as we prepare for next week’s tournament.”
Highland senior Michele Micciche had 15 points, eight steals and three assists, while senior Colby Newson had six points, seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman Erica Champion added seven points and seven rebounds, while senior Shelby Thornhill had seven points and three rebounds.
Senior Jessica Crew had 10 rbounds and freshman Stefanie Hoerner had five, while freshman Hailey Place had two steals.
