Fauquier wins Conference 22 wrestling tournament championship over Eastern View

The Fauquier Falcons won the inaugural Conference 22 wrestling tournament Saturday, beating host Eastern View, 241.5-218, on the road in Culpeper.
The Falcons won thanks to five individual championships and five runner-up finishes, and they advanced to wrestle at the Class 4A North Region tournament Feb. 14-15 at Eastern View.
Fauquier has won four consecutive region titles, each in Region II prior to the recent VHSL reclassification.
Winning individual conference titles Saturday for Fauquier were Daniel Ariola (113 pounds), Kyle Roche (126), Matt Raines (138), Garrett Tingen (145) and Clifford Harrison (152). Finishing second were Jake Hilleary (120), Vito Camarca (160), Erick Lemus (170), Andrew Smith (182) and Justin Sanker (285). Tyler Devers (195) added a third-place finish, while Thomas Palmer (220) took fourth
Todd Parker won Liberty’s lone championship by beating Sanker, 3-1, in the 285 final.
Elsewhere in the finals, Ariola beat Courtland’s Douglas Palagois via pin, Roche beat Eastern View’s Bret Shurina, 5-3, Raines defeated Chancellor’s Mark Weinstock via forfeit, Tingen upset Eastern View’s Austin Jenkins via pin, and Harrison beat Eastern View’s Kevin Willems, 8-5.
The Falcons went 3-3 in the finals against Eastern View, which also advanced to the region tournament.
