Fauquier mail carrier assaulted on Wilson Road
A man tried to pull a Fauquier mail carrier out of her truck Saturday on Wilson Road.
At about 11 a.m., the mail carrier was delivering letters from a marked mail truck on Wilson Road near Chimney Oaks Court when she saw a man crouched by a dark blue or black Chevy S10 Blazer style vehicle parked on the side of the road, said Lt. James Hartman, spokesman for the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office. The mail carrier told deputies she thought she saw another man inside the Blazer.
"She thought they were stranded on the side of the road, so she pulled up next to them," Hartman said.
The mail carrier asked the man if they needed any help. The man said "Yes," and without saying anything else, grabbed her by the arm and tried to pull her out of her mail truck. She hit her head on the inside of the truck before managing to pull free.
"Being in fear of what would happen next, she stepped on the gas and drove off," Hartman said.
Deputies answered a 9-1-1 call, canvassing the area where the assault took place. They weren't able to find the vehicle or the man, described as possibly Hispanic, about six feet tall and weighing 175 pounds, looking "scruffy" with some grey hair and wearing a plain white shirt and blue jeans.
