Fauquier kids give troops a boost with ‘Operation Candy Cane’

Friday, Dec. 20 | By Staff
The Pierce Elementary School student body reached out to active duty soldiers this Christmas season by participating in "Operation Candy Cane." All classes, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, prepared holiday messages to send to American troops. Students thanked the soldiers for their service and some drew American flags or Christmas pictures.

Some of the students thanked the military men and women for their bravery and for what each one was giving up each day in order to serve our country. Janie Todd, differentiation/remediation specialist at Pierce, who coordinated the effort for her school, was extremely pleased that all classes participated and was touched by the students’ efforts.

“Although we know the soldiers will hold onto these for many months, the memory of recognizing the efforts of our military men and women this Christmas will last a lifetime in the minds of our children,” she said.
