After almost 60 years in business at various locations in Warrenton, the Fauquier Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop will close at the end of June.
Citing a decrease in both donations and shoppers, Sandra Brown, president of the Hospital Auxiliary, said it was time for the Auxiliary to turn its energy to new efforts.
She said, “When Brenda Connally, manager of the Thrift Shop, decided to retire after 26 years, I knew it would be impossible to replace her. It’s a tough job. There are so many thrift stores in town now, and our current small space on Main Street limited what we could offer. We had been thinking about this for a long time, and finally decided it was time.”
Brown admits that she and many of the volunteers are sad to see the Warrenton institution close, “but we all agree that we are proud we were a part of it.”
Most of the volunteers who worked in the Thrift Shop are looking to continue volunteering at the hospital or at the Fauquier Health Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
The Thrift Shop is closed for spring cleaning until April 13, but will reopen after restocking with spring and summer items. There will be several big sales this spring leading up to the closing date.
Donations will no longer be accepted after April 14.
