Fauquier High School Band to march on New Jersey
Thursday, Oct. 31
The award-winning Fauquier High School Marching Band will head to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, this Saturday, Nov. 2, to compete in the USBands Open Class National Championship.
The FHS band has performed its 2013 show, The Prestige, in four regional competitions this season. After applying early last spring, the band was selected by the USBands Association for participation in this national contest. The Falcon Marching Band is the only Virginia band competing in 2-Open Class at this event.
Band students raised funds for the trip in a 12-hour Rehearse-A-Thon at Fauquier High on Oct. 12, when the musicians practiced for an unbroken 12 hours ending with a performance of the show for cheering friends and family.
“It is an honor to be selected to compete in the USBands National Championship every year we have been eligible,” said Band Director Andrew Paul. “Competing in this great event and in such a great stadium is a wonderful end to a season that has been the most musically and physically challenging effort for our students and parents ever.”
Many parents and staff members will accompany the band to the competition in supporting roles. In addition to meals, equipment and chaperoning, a team of parents is in charge of organizing and maintaining the uniforms, including a signature white-feathered plume on the FHS Marching Band uniform hat.
