Fauquier deputies blame texting for seven-injury accident
Deputies say a Warrenton man had his eyes on his phone, not the road, when his Jeep crashed into a car full of children.
On Sept. 21, Brandon Christopher Battle of Warrenton drove north on Rogues Road in a 2005 Jeep Liberty. At 2:57 p.m., he crashed into a 2006 Dodge Charger driven by Anna Louise Jenkins of Bealeton.
According to a crash report, Battle was driving 50 miles per hour, texting on a mobile phone, when his Jeep crossed into the wrong side of the road.
The head-on crash did an estimated $10,000 of damage to each vehicle. Seven people, six of them children, were sent to Fauquier Hospital for injuries from the accident.
Sheriff's deputies charged Battle with texting while driving and reckless driving. They also cited Jenkins for six counts of failure to use child restraint devices.
