Fauquier deputies: beware cleaning scammers
Fauquier deputies are investigating a cleaning business scam stemming from weekend incidents in the southern part of the county.
On March 2 at noon, a woman holding a bottle of Febreze approached a home in the 11500 block of Kings Hill Road in the Remington/Opal/Bealeton area. The woman said she was starting a new business and wanted to clean the homeowner's carpets, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
A caller also saw a man parked in a tan sport utility vehicle in the homeowner's driveway. The SUV had a large dent in the passenger side rear bumper.
The woman is possibly Asian, slender, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with shoulder length brown hair, with some color in her hair, as though she had tried to dye it, the release said. She went to another home in the 11400 block of Tilia Lane after leaving Kings Hill Road.
On March 3, a resident in the 11200 block of Falling Creek Drive in Bealeton saw the same woman come to his home.
Similar incidents been reported in the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania area, the release said.
Anyone who sees these people should not answer the door, but should instead try to get a license plate number from the vehicle and call 9-1-1 immediately, the release said.
