The Highland Hawks beat Fredericksburg Academy, 70-28, Friday during the semifinals of the Highland Invitational boys basketball tournament at home in Warrenton.

They advanced to play Christ Chapel in the final Saturday.

Against Fredericksburg, the Hawks allowed only 14 points over the final three quarters while making 53 percent of their field goal attempts in the game.

Senior Logan Miller led Highland with 15 points and seven rebounds. Adding 10 points apiece was junior Seth Kott, senior Matt Kelly and junior Traves Stolterfoht. Junior Nicky Sim had six assists, while sophomore Mark Terrell had seven rebounds.

“We really shared the ball and got good looks,” Hawks coach Jake Shechtman said. “The game shifted in our direction when we were keeping things simple and focused on details.”

Chancellor boys basketball 78, Liberty 40

The Liberty Eagles began the 2013-14 boys basketball season Friday with a 78-40 loss to Chancellor on the road in Fredericksburg.

Arber Krasniqi led the Eagles with 12 points, while Titus Sizemore had nine.
