Despite career-high points totals from Melissa McCann and Addy Foudray, the Kettle Run Cougars lost Friday to the Skyline girls basketball team, 46-41, at home in Nokesville.

McCann scored 18 points to tie graduate Sami Vance as the Cougars’ career scoring leader with 311 points. She scored 14 points in the second quarter to give Kettle Run a 26-19 lead after Foudray scored six of her 15 points in the first quarter. The Cougars (3-4) expanded their lead to 12 points by the end of the third quarter, but Skyline rallied back by applying full court pressure and making 11 free throws in the fourth.

"There is no doubt in my mine we were the better team,” Cougars coach Sarah Ventresco said. “We constantly focus on playing all 4 quarters and last night we played 3. We are still learning how to keep cool and win games."

Kettle Run 68, Skyline 66

The Kettle Run Cougars broke a three-game losing streak Friday by beating the previously-undefeated Skyline boys basketball team, 68-66, in overtime.

Skyline (8-1) led 34-22 at halftime, but the Cougars rallied back to force overtime and win despite playing with only eight players due to illness.

Rashawn Latimer led Kettle Run with 20 points, while Brendan Deliee had 19, Danny Mattson had 14 and Travis Williams had nine.
