The Kettle Run Cougars got their first win of 2012-13 Monday with an 80-67 victory over Tuscarora at home in Nokesville.
Four Kettle Run starters finished with double-digit points and helped the Cougars build a lead as large as 25 points.
"A lot of our scoring in the first half was based on our defensive pressure," Kettle Run coach Troy Washington said. "We just felt comfortable with our starters out there."
Junior guard Brendan Deliee led the Cougars with 24 points, while senior guard Danny Mattson had 21, junior guard Rashawn Latimer had 17 and senior guard Travis Williams had 13. Deliee has 42 points in Kettle Run's two games.
"One of the things he could not do consistently last year was score at the rim," Washington said. "Now he's not settling for the jump shots. He's able to get to he rim and nine times out of 10 he's going to finish."
Deliee also drew fouls, and he went 7-for-11 from the free-throw line to complement seven two-points field goals and one 3-pointer.
