The Liberty Eagles' exploits Saturday at the Wildcat Track Classic in Stafford included a school-record time in the 3,200-meter run, a national-qualifying relay team, four state-qualifying times and victories in four events.
Kettle Run added a trio of top-three finishes.
Liberty's boys 1,600 sprint medley relay team of Michael Fairfax, Anthony Spagnoletti, Eric Stiggle and Danny Collins won in 3 minutes, 38.51 seconds to qualify for nationals, while Collins won the 3,200 run by finishing in a school-record time of 9:25.31, beating the old record by 16 seconds.
Spagnoletti added a victory in the triple jump with a state-qualifying leap of 43 feet, 11 inches, while Taylor Brown won the girls 800 in a state-qualifying 2:22.30.
Jaquela Smith added a runner-up finish in the shot put and a sixth-place finish in the high jump, while Fairfax qualified for state in the 300 hurdles with a third-place finish (40.61) and Spagnoletti qualified for state in the 100 with a third-place finish (11.08). Spagnoletti also placed second in the long jump and fifth in the 200, while Fairfax took fifth in the 110 hurdles.
For Kettle Run, the girls 1,600 sprint medley relay team placed second and the boys 1,600 team took third. Stephanie Rhodes finished third in the discus, while Geneva Doores took fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put, Austin Lewis finished fourth in the 100, Aaron Mullins placed seventh in the shot put and Kaleb Bland took eighth.
