The Wakefield Owls lost their third consecutive girls lacrosse game Thursday, falling to Foxcroft, 20-7, at home in The Plains.

Foxcroft took an 11-4 lead in the first half and overcame 10 saves by Wakefield goalie Alyssa Ortiz.

For the Owls (1-6), Gabby Castano had two goals on three shots, while Emily Granruth had three goals on six shots and Sarah Steenson had two goals on eight shots.

St. Catherine’s girls lacrosse 19, Highland 8

The Highland Hawks broke a three-game winning streak Thursday with a 19-8 loss to the St. Catherine’s girls lacrosse team at home in Warrenton.

Mackenzie Walker led Highland (5-5) with four goals and an assist, while Sophia Sirianni had two goals. Kendall Mayer and Hayden Garrett each added one goal and one assist, while Hawks goalie Emma Walsh had 12 saves.

Randolph Macon boys tennis 5, Wakefield 2

The Randolph Macon boys tennis team completed a season sweep of the Wakefield Owls with a 5-2 victory Thursday at home in Front Royal.

Bennett Wise won the No. 4 singles match 8-6 and Daniel Lizarraga won 8-6 at No. 5 to keep the Owls (3-6 overall, 2-5 Delaney Athletic Conference) within striking distance entering doubles play. Wakefield, however, lost the final two matches with Gage Himelfarb and Jamie Corbin falling 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Juan Lizarraga and Wise falling 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Himelfarb also lost 8-2 at No. 1 singles, while Juan Lizarraga lost 8-0 at No. 2 and Corbin lost 8-4 at No. 3.

Kettle Run girls soccer 3, John Handley 0

The Kettle Run Cougars got their third consecutive victory Thursday by beating the John Handley girls soccer team, 3-0, on the road in Winchester.

Kettle Run (5-2 overall; 1-0 Evergreen District) took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Emily Brummett scored off a corner kick by Erika Blevins. A Blevins corner kick also set up Alysaa Rodemsky for the Cougars’ first goal of the second half. Blevins then finished the scoring with a goal off a Jessica Dias assist.

Courtland girls soccer 3, Fauquier 0

The Fauquier Falcons broke a three-game winning streak Thursday by losing to the Courtland girls soccer team, 3-0, on the road in Spotsylvania.

Courtland took a 1-0 lead against the Falcons (3-3 overall, 1-0 Evergreen District) in the first half when forward Marybeth McBroom scored 15 minutes into the match. McBroom then began the second half with another goal and Paige Robertson finished the scoring with 12 minutes remaining in the match.

Fauquier goalkeeper Caroline Leible ended with 14 saves, while the Falcons’ best scoring opportunity came while trailing 2-0 when a free kick by outside back Aubrey Munoz ricocheted off the crossbar.

The Falcons “were not able to cope with the quickness and speed of play of” Courtland, said Fauquier coach Rick Ashley, whose team played on the road for the second consecutive night.

Warren County boys tennis 6, Liberty 3

The Liberty Eagles avoided a fourth shut out this boys tennis season, but still lost to the Warren County Wildcats, 6-3, Thursday at home in Bealeton.

Liberty (0-6 overall, 0-3 Evergreen District) won the No. 1 and 2 singles matches as well as the No. 1 doubles match, but won only 14 games in the other six matches.

In singles play, No. 1 Kamran Pirasteh defeated Tyler Wright 10-0, while No. 2 Zachary Frack beat Michael Medrano 10-1, No. 3 Cesar Subervi lost to Glen Pinard 10-6, No. 4 Joey Craft fell to Dylan Ross 10-1, No. 5 Shaun Davis lost to Cody Vaughn 10-0, No. 6 Trevor Ray fell to Tristan Turner 10-0.

In doubles play, Pirasteh and Frack beat Wright and Pinard 10-6 at No. 1, while Subervi and Craft lost to Medrano and Ross 10-7 at No. 2, and Davis and Ray lost 10-0 at No. 3.
