The Fauquier Falcons’ dominance this season extended into Evergreen District play Friday with a 2-0 victory over the Liberty softball team on the road in Bealeton.
Fauquier pitcher Tess Miller held the Eagles (5-2 overall, 0-1 district) to one hit while striking out five over seven innings, improving the Falcons’ record to 8-2 (1-0 district).
Kaitlyn Reid gave Fauquier a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI double that scored Justina Augustine (single). Miller added an RBI triple in the fourth inning that scored Rachel Taylor (single). Miller went 2-for-3, while Augustine went 1-for-2, Reid went 1for-3 and Chrissy Bruno went 1-for-2.
For Liberty, Taylor Davidson took the loss despite allowing only two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over seven innings. Leslie Bourgeois had the Eagles’ only hit – a double.
Highland boys tennis 13, Trinity Christian 11
The Highland Hawks evened their record at 4-4 Friday with a 13-11 victory over the Trinity Christian girls lacrosse team at home in Warrenton.
Jessica Crew and Sophia Sirianni led the Hawks with four goals each, while Mackenzie Walker had three and Kendall Mayer had two. Mayer added three assists and Sirianni had one, while Emma Walsh had seven saves for Highland.
Highland boys tennis 7, Fauquier 2
The Highland Hawks improved to 3-0 against Evergreen District boys tennis teams Friday and improved its overall record to 6-0 by beating the Fauquier Falcons, 7-2, on the road in Warrenton.
Highland, which plays in the private school Delaney Athletic Conference, previously beat public schools Brentsville, 8-0, and Liberty, 7-0.
Against Fauquier, No. 1 singles player Adam Fenton defeated Nick Solhjou 10-0, No. 2 Rich Gerhardt beat Jon Simpson 10-4, No. 4 Connor Deal defeated Jacob Evans 10-8 and No. 6 Jon Deal beat Colin Burgin 7-3. Fauquier’s Josh Turner defeated Tim Bartz 10-8 in No. 3 play, while No. 5 Kaleb Scott beat the Hawks’ Jonathan Finley 10-5.
In doubles action, Fenton and Bartz beat Solhjou and Simpson 10-3 at No. 1, while Gerhardt and Connor Deal defeated Turner and Evans 11-9 at No. 2, and Finley and Jon Deal beat Scott and Dooley 10-8 at No. 3.
Fauquier girls soccer 4, Liberty 0
The Fauquier Falcons began Evergreen District play Friday with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Liberty Eagles at home in Warrenton.
Fauquier (2-2 overall, 1-0 district) began the scoring 14 minutes into the match and took a 2-0 lead into halftime en route to beating Liberty (2-5, 0-1).
Cassidy Wagoner scored the first goal from a few yards out off an assist by Julie Kohler. She scored again 18 minutes into the game, a goal again set up by Kohler, who took a shot after taking the ball up the right side. Liberty’s goalkeeper deflected the ball, but Wagoner got the rebound.
In the second half, Kohler scored on a volley from Wagoner after Aubrey Munoz took a free kick. Then, with 17 minutes left in the second half, Megan Diehl scored from 25 yards out directly off a throw-in.
