Airplane collides into trees at Flying Circus on Sunday.

Monday, Jun. 30 | By Julie Taylor
The 1942 Waco, flown by Byron Stewart, was declared a total loss, but Stewart is said to have suffered only minor injuries.
Byron Stewart of Warrenton crashed a biplane into a row of trees yesterday.

Yesterday around 2:45 p.m., a biplane crashed into the woods in the 5100 block of Ritchie Road, adjacent to the Flying Circus, according to Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police.

The 1942 Waco, carrying only Stewart, experienced engine failure, which caused the plane to perform a crash landing into the field next to the circus.

Fauquier Battalion Chief RJ Arft said Stewart had already left before crews arrived, and notes that his injury was probably not severe.

The plane was a total loss.
