A week of school closures

Friday, Jan. 24 | By Contributed article
While students in Fauquier County Public Schools have missed eight days of school as of Jan. 24, 2014, there is no impact on the current school-year calendar at this point. The calendar has five makeup days built-in, and the other three days do not have to be made up. The school division is using “banked” time to cover the last three days missed; basically, banked time is the instructional time that exceeds the state’s minimum requirement.

Going forward, if more days are missed due to inclement weather, FCPS may need to alter the current calendar if the division should be in jeopardy of not meeting the state’s requirement of 990 hours of instruction. The associate superintendent for instruction tracks the number of daily instructional hours, deducting recess, early dismissal afternoons, etc.

Spring break (April 14-21, 2014) should remain intact, as scheduled.

When will report cards be distributed?

The distribution date of report cards has changed due to school closings. Elementary and middle school report cards will be distributed on Wednesday, January 29. High school report cards will be distributed on Thursday, January 30. Any further changes due to inclement weather will be announced.
