The eighth-grade dance, An Evening in Tropical Paradise, will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 5. Tickets will be on sale starting Monday, June 1, at $5 per person.
The orchestra concert will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10.
Final report cards will be mailed home the week of June 22.
Fauquier High
Fauquier DECA will be represented at Relay for Life this Saturday. Co-chairpersons Mary Beth Hume and Katie Stanley have been recruiting members using the them "Check your Pecs" in an attempt to raise breast cancer awareness for men as well as women. They will be walking the track for this cause all night long.

Foxcroft
The roses weren’t out yet, owing to the cool spring, but azaleas, peonies and irises, as well as proud parents, faculty and friends, glowed along with the beaming faces of the members of Foxcroft School’s Class of 2009 May 22 in Miss Charlotte’s Garden as 40 scholars received their diplomas at the school's 95th commencement.
The class, which includes young women from nine states, two foreign countries and the District of Columbia, is an accomplished one, having earned 150 acceptances to 88 colleges and universities.
In a first for Foxcroft, the exercises included the official presentation of an appointment to West Point by Cadet Stuart Coffee, a member of the USMA Class of 2011. "On behalf of the President of the United States, it gives me great pleasure to give this appointment to Christine Thebaud," he said, as the entire assemblage rose to give the Upperville resident a standing ovation.
Thebaud was also one of seven students inducted into the Foxcroft Chapter of the Cum Laude Society, a high school academic organization based on the college-level Phi Beta Kappa. Graduating seniors Korama Danquah (Los Angeles), Georgeann Ferrell (Lake McQueeney, Texas), Chelsea Dickson (Paris, Ky.), and Olivia Means (Washington, D.C.) and juniors Rachel Giampa (Warrenton) and Grace Murphy (Middleburg) were also inducted. Gabriella Di Carlo, the valedictorian of the Class of 2009, was inducted into Cum Laude a year ago.
Paul K. Bergan, who taught at Foxcroft for 22 years before retiring two years ago, was was the featured speaker, selected by the graduates.
Senior Class Speaker was Catherine Leigh (Kayleigh) Moehrle of Frederick, Md.
Highland
Juniors Margot Laimbeer and Ty Schmeider were selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference at Fordham University this summer. They will attend specialized workshops and classes designed to develop the skills and traits that define a leader.
On May 2, Highland's Upper School chorus performed before three adjudicators at the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Alexandria, Va. as part of the Capitol Music Fest. They received an overall of rating of "Superior," the highest rating, for the three selections they performed.
Wakefield
The Summer Camp catalog and application are online at www.wakefieldschool.org. Camps run June 15-July31 for ages 3 and up. Before and after care is available.
The Kindergarten Closing Ceremony will be 9 a.m. Friday, May 29, in the Lower Gym.
The Wakefield Performing Arts Awards Dinner, will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, in the Lower Gym.
The Spring Sports Banquet will be 6-9 p.m. Monday, June 1, in the dining hall.
Wakefield Country Day
Hannah Tufts, an eighth-grade student at WCDS, grabbed a fifth-place finish in the Student Life category in a national photography competition co-sponsored by Jostens and Wolfe's Camera. Tufts was one of 115 prize winners selected from more than 8,000 entries nationwide in this annual event. Submissions were judged on composition, artistic merit, and technical qualities, as well as the ability to convey a compelling story. Tufts' photograph will be displayed on the Jostens.com Web site along with the other winners and will be featured in the 2010 issue of the Jostens Gotcha Covered Look Book, a popular resource for yearbook advisors and staffs.
Wakefield's lower school graduation will be 7 p.m. May 29 and will include the presentation of various academic and achievement awards. May 31 is the date for the prep school and senior graduation and will take place in the Senior Garden, weather permitting. Valedictorians will present speeches and various academic and achievement awards will be presented. The event will be highlighted by an address by James Gannon, a Rappahannock resident, author, former Wall Street Journal reporter, and former Editor of the Des Moines Register.
