Police And Court Briefs
Pennsylvania Woman Killed in WreckMaryanne Weaver, 67, of Palmerton, Pa., reportedly died as the result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 66 May 6.
Virginia State Trooper Chris Burkes, who is assigned to the Area 12 Office in Warrenton, investigated the crash.
He said it happened at approximately 1:50 p.m., when Richard Weaver, also 67, was driving a Ford Excursion towing a camper. The SUV was in the left lane when the camper began to sway back and forth, Burkes said. As Richard Weaver tried to gain control, the Excursion went into the median where it landed on its side. The camper wound up blocking two travel lanes on the highway.
Maryanne Weaver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Richard Weaver reportedly sustained minor injuries.
The wreck snarled traffic as only one lane remained open for approximately two hours. There were some minor, secondary crashes due to the traffic congestion, Burkes said.
