 Fauquier County Public Schools

Fauquier County Public Schools is seeking native Arabic or Turkish speakers in the community who are interested in working with the school division to offer a 10-day summer language program to Fauquier County students. This is a paid position. Those interested are asked to contact Amy Ternois, FCPS coordinator for the office of second language acquisition, at (540) 351-1058 or aternois@fcps1.org.


Parent Resource Center

"Parent Training: Resiliency – Moving Forward" presented by Alan Rasmussen, 4:30-6 p.m. Monday, May 11, at PRC.

"Parent Advocacy 101 – 'Tools of the Trade'" presented by Lynne Blythe and Marilyn McCombe 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, in the upper level food court at Wegman's in Gainesville.

May 4 news: Published in the Weekly Writing Corner of the Free Lance-Star: Scott Simpson, Roy Fox and Veronica Talbert.

Please be sure your child(dren) arrives to school on time, is well rested and has eaten a healthy breakfast during month of May. SOL testing will be on going for the entire month within different grade levels.

Interims are scheduled to be sent home on May 15.


Taylor Middle

Will Yurgaitis, a sixth-grade student from Taylor, won the Town Crier Contest in honor of the 250th Anniversary of Fauquier County. The contest required students to write a 100-200 word announcement about an event in the history of Fauquier County. One winner was chosen from each level, elementary, middle, and high school.

Congratulations to seventh-grade student Justin Sanker for being selected as Student of the Month for April. Justin was nominated by his teachers for being always being polite, thoughtful, helpful to other students, and always prepared. Congratulations, Justin.


Warrenton Middle

To celebrate Earth Day, on April 22, the science classes planted two flowering pear trees, picked up trash in the school yard and inside the school. The importance of recycling was reinforced as students went to each classroom to collect recycling bins.

Sean Tripani and Adriana Walter participated in the Virginia All-State Chorus April 24-26.

Congratulations to the WMS Battle of the Books team. They placed third at the Piedmont Regional Final Meet on April 24.

A big thank you goes out to all students, faculty and parents who supported the WMS Spring Book Fair.


Fauquier High

The following Photography students will have work in the "Neighborhood Art Show," in The Plains on May 8-10: Olivia Boyd, Meredith Butler, Nicholas Ferri, Natalie Henson, Samantha Kay, Garrett Pechtimaldjian, Matt Reynolds and Cassella Slater.


Liberty High

May 28: Academic Awards and Scholarship Night, 7 p.m.

Students missing more than 10 days in a course may not receive credit due to absences. Opportunities exist for students to make up absences through the Saturday School Program. To make up time through Saturday School, students must complete the green "Saturday Make-up Days for Absences" form available in the main office.

Saturdays available for make up time are May 9, 16, 23 and 30, and June 6 and 13.


Wakefield

The Summer Camp catalog and registration are available online at www.wakefieldschool.org. Over 100 camps offered June 15 to July 31. Before and after care available.

The Upper School Dance, Saturday will be 8-11 p.m. May 9 in the Lower Gym.


Wakefield Country Day

The Spring Sports Award Banquet is scheduled for Friday, May 15. Wakefield CDS athletes will be honored for their participation in the spring sports schedule. The event starts at 7 p.m., and a potluck dessert and beverage array follows the ceremony.
